A Nice Surprise For Casey!!
HELLO EVERYONE!!
This month’s winner was Andy Pitcock. Actually it was his daughter Casey’s appointment that was the winner for the Pitcock family. And Andy, being the great dad he is, decided to surprise Casey and told her she needed to return to The Smile Shack for some extra care her teeth were needing. Casey was confused but came along anyway. You can see by her expression in the upper photo she was completely surprised by the iPad 2 and that dad’s little white lie was well worth it. Good luck to the Pitcock family and enjoy the iPad 2.

Kid’s Day At The Smile Shack!!
Hello Zanesville, OHIO!!
This past Friday was our kid’s day at The Smile Shack. Our theme was hippie day and we gave each child a bag of goodies as well as a cool tie-dye shirt. In fact, we all wore crazy tie-dyes all day. The kids had a great time and were very well behaved. They entertained themselves with our new iPads in the kid’s area, playing limbo, coloring and just generally being silly. A lot of teeth were cleaned as well as a few cavities filled. We even had a movie theater style popcorn maker that provided everyone with a fun snack. I’m attaching a slideshow so you can see the fun we had.

Doris is our June iPad 2 winner!! She says she never wins anything. Well that’s not true anymore!!
Unfortunately, Doris suffered a fall the other day. However, after a doctor’s visit to check on her recovery she was brave enough to come into The Smile Shack to collect her iPad 2.

Why Invisalign?
GREETINGS ZANESVILLE, OH!!
Today, I’d like to examine the advantages of using Invisalign to enhance your teeth’s natural appearance and function.
For our Smile Shack patients who aren’t familiar with this alternative to traditional braces, Invisalign is a series of clear, computer-generated trays worn (ideally) 24 hours a day and replaced with new trays every two weeks. Although Invisalign used to be employed for basic cases only, such as crowded lower teeth, Invisalign can now be used for advanced straightening issues. With each subsequent set of Invisalign aligners, your teeth are slowly and comfortably adjusted to the required straightness and shape, without the unsightliness and discomfort of traditional wire braces.
Invisalign trays are also easily removed, easily cleaned, and nearly invisible. Patients tend to love these facets of Invisalign, especially those who want to remove their trays before heading out on a date so eating, drinking and other activities remain uncomplicated and natural—a benefit traditional braces can’t offer.
Invisalign trays can also double for whitening gel trays, allowing patients to brighten their smile while straightening their teeth. Typically, Invisalign cases require only six months to a year to complete, and having the ability to remove your trays when it’s convenient for you is a luxury you can’t put a price on!

Good news!! As a display of our appreciation, starting this month (April 2011), The Smile Shack will have a drawing for an Apple iPad 2 as our way of saying “Thank You!!” to all of our great patients who have been loyal to us throughout the years. And, we’re planning on giving one away each month for at least six months to give everyone a chance to win. Patients who simply confirm and come to their appointments will be eligible for the drawing. In other words, this is not open to the general public. It’s just for our current patients in the month of their appointments, which should increase everyone’s odds of winning! Mind That Gap!!
Greetings To One and All —
Today I’d like to discuss caring for the dental bridge. For those of you who are facing a hole in your smile due to an injury or an extraction, the bridge, as its name describes, is a partial denture that spans the open space between your remaining adjacent teeth.
Bridges come in two types: fixed or removable, and can be fabricated out of gold, porcelain fused to metal, or porcelain alone. A bridge made of porcelain looks and feels as natural as your own teeth and allows the wearer to chew and smile with confidence.
For the fixed bridge, the two abutting teeth on either side of the gap are shaved down to fit inside the crown-like ends of the bridge. This permanently joins your natural teeth to the bridge. However, this union will not allow floss to pass between your teeth. Therefore, it is very important to brush well and thoroughly clean the bridge at the margins, where the bridge meets your natural teeth. Using an item called a floss-threader can be a very effective substitute for traditional floss for cleaning this kind of bridge. Cleaning underneath the prosthesis is critical to your mouth health, so rinsing well with germ-killing mouthwashes can help as well.
On the other hand, if you receive a removable bridge, cleaning is generally easier, but there are other important issues to consider. First off, to clean the bridge, you’ll need to remove it and brush the underside where the bridge rests on the gum, in addition to the topside tooth surface. When removing and replacing the bridge, make certain you do so in the manner you were shown by your dentist, since this kind of appliance can cause a strain on your anchoring teeth. And one last point, make sure you have your teeth and bridge checked regularly to assure the clasps that hold onto your natural teeth are working properly and not causing your anchor teeth to loosen over time.
